Appreciation post: A drop of lighter fluid fixed a stuck aperture ring on a Nikon F2

I was ready to order a new part, but a local collector told me to try it and it worked perfectly after letting it sit for an hour. Anyone have a better solvent they swear by for this kind of gunk?

That "just light it on fire" bit is a classic. I've used a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip for old grease on lens barrels. Works well and dries fast without leaving residue. Lighter fluid is great for metal parts though.

Guess the repair manual forgot the "just light it on fire" step.

Wait, are you saying that was actually in the manual, @river_gonzalez66? That's wild. I can't believe a real guide would tell you to set something on fire to fix it. That sounds like a joke someone wrote in the margins. I'd be scared to follow any advice from that book, lol. What if someone actually tried it?
