A customer in Portland told me to stop using canned air on shutter blades

He said the propellant can leave a residue that gums things up over time, and now I just use a blower brush. Anyone else make that switch?

The residue thing is real, but I'm more worried about the cold. That sudden blast of freezing air on warm metal can cause condensation inside the shutter box. You're basically inviting moisture to sit on the springs and pins. A blower brush moves air without that temperature shock, which seems safer for the tiny moving parts in the long run.

My old Nikon F3 shutter started sticking after years of canned air. A local repair guy showed me the sticky film inside, and it was a real eye opener. I switched to a blower brush that same day and never looked back.

Gums things up over time" is a great point I never considered.
