Zip ties looked fine until I pulled the desk out, 90 minute cleanout
I spent maybe 4 years behind my computer desk just shoving cables back every time something slipped. Finally moved the desk to paint last Sunday and found a solid 14 pounds of tangled cords, including three that were connected to nothing. It took me half a Saturday and one pair of wire cutters to sort through 8 chargers, 2 HDMI cables, and a mystery VGA cord. What finally changed my mind was labeling each cable with a cheap masking tape tag before I reconnected anything. Anyone else put off the behind-the-desk mess until you physically cannot see the floor anymore?

Man, I used to think cable management was for people with way too much free time. But after I finally pulled my desk out and found a nest of old phone chargers and a cord that went to a printer I sold in 2019, I totally get it now. The masking tape labels are the real game changer, I started doing that for my TV setup too and it saves so much frustration later.
