My brother called my cable nest a 'spaghetti crime scene' last Sunday
He was visiting and saw behind my TV stand. Said it looked like a rat died back there. I was kinda offended at first. But then I looked at it with fresh eyes. 40+ wires just piled up. Power strips on power strips. Couldn't even tell what plugged into what. He helped me label every cord with masking tape circles. Took 3 hours but now if something fails I can trace it in 2 minutes. Has anyone else had a guest or family member point out their wiring mess and actually make them fix it? Or is it just me who ignores it for years until someone says something.

Ran into the same thing when my friend helped me move a couch and saw the mess behind my setup. He didn't say much, just kind of laughed and shook his head, which honestly stung more than if he'd called it names. I ended up doing the tape trick too but with different colored ones for each device so I could tell them apart at a glance. The thing that really saved me was zip tying the cables into groups after labeling, so even if it looks messy from far away I know exactly which bundle is which. Took way longer than 3 hours for me, more like a whole weekend, but now I can swap out anything without unplugging half the room. Funny how it takes someone else's eyes to make you actually deal with stuff you've been walking past for years.
