Stripping coax wrong for 12 years, a neighbor kid showed me

I was doing the ring cut at the end of a drop onto RG6 and always nicked the dielectric just enough to cause intermittent signal issues. My neighbor's teenager was helping me run a line last Saturday and asked why I didn't use the sliding blade setting on my own tool. Took me 20 seconds to realize I had the depth stop on the wrong notch since I bought it. Swapped to the next setting and the strip came out clean, no braid contact, no shorts. Anyone else ever find out they were using a basic tool wrong for that long?

Man that depth stop is the sneakiest thing on those tools. I ran into the same deal with my own setup, kept blaming the cable or the connectors for months when it was just me being lazy about checking the dial. Once you hit that right notch it feels like a whole different tool, strips like butter. Also worth doing a quick test strip every time you change jobs or spools, cheap insurance against pulling your hair out later.
