Dropped $220 on a cable toner that lied to me on a 3-story job in Akron
Back in the day we just yelled down the hall or used a cheap fox and hound that buzzed loud enough. Last spring I bought a fancy toner with a digital readout for $220 because a guy at the supply house swore it was the only way to sort out a 60-drop mess in an old Akron school. It kept ringing the same pair on two different jacks on the third floor, so I cut and reran two runs that were fine to begin with. Turns out the cheap $15 buzzer I had in the truck since 2012 was right the whole time and the fancy one just didn't like being near the elevator shaft. Spent a day and a half chasing my own tail plus the 220 bucks, and the office still brings it up. Anyone else got a gadget that only works on the bench and falls apart in a real building?
