Am I the only one who thinks zip ties are overrated for cable management?

I visited a buddy's home office in Austin last week and he had this whole system of velcro straps and cable sleeves. Everyone raves about zip ties but I think they're a trap. You cinch them tight and then need three tools to undo them when you swap out a monitor or add a new device. My buddy spent 45 minutes cutting through 12 zip ties just to move his desk 3 feet. Meanwhile my velcro straps cost me $8 for a 100 pack and I can rearrange everything in under 10 minutes. Has anyone else ditched zip ties for good?

And that reminds me, my buddy tried using zip ties on his motorcycle fairings once. Looked real clean for about two weeks until he hit a bump and the whole side panel popped off on the highway. He spent the next hour walking along the shoulder picking up plastic pieces. Now he swears by those little rubber well nuts from the hardware store. Not as pretty but his bike stays together.
