Am I the only one who finally checked the mess behind my desk last Saturday and found a cable to a printer I got rid of in 2019
I finally pulled my desk away from the wall last Saturday after putting it off for over a year, mostly because I was scared of what was back there. Turns out I had 11 cables plugged into two power strips, and 6 of them went to stuff I don't even own anymore, like an old printer and a phone I traded in back in 2020. The thing that tipped me off was my surge protector, it felt warm to the touch even when nothing was running, and that creeped me out enough to finally deal with it. I sat on the floor for a solid hour just untangling and yanking stuff, and I found a USB cable that had been wrapped around a lamp cord so tight it left a groove in the plastic. I got rid of a whole grocery bag of junk and now I only have 4 cables back there, which feels insane compared to what it was. How do you all keep it from getting bad again, do you label stuff or just do a cleanout every few months?
The warm surge protector would have freaked me out too, glad you finally tackled it. I keep saying I'll label stuff and then never do, so every few months I just yank everything out and start over. Tossing a whole bag of dead cables is such a good feeling.
