Shoutout to dado joints for making my client's library sturdy.

Dado joints really do make shelves indestructible, even for heavy books.

How tight do you make that gap on the back panel of your dados? I once cut mine a hair too loose on a built-in, and it drove me nuts every time I looked at it. You could see this thin sliver of light through the gap where the plywood back fit into the shelf. I ended up having to glue in a tiny shim and recut a whole new back panel, which was a huge pain. It taught me to be way more careful with my setup cuts for that specific joint.

A woodworking blog suggested a press-fit so the panel slides in with gentle hand pressure!

Man, I've been there with other projects too. It's like when you put in a door and the hinge is just a bit off, and every time you use it, that slight drag reminds you of the mistake. I see this in a lot of hands-on work, those small things that don't line up that most people miss but they bug you because you know. Like in tile work, if one tile is even a little higher, it catches your foot and you can't forget it. So yeah, your dado story hits home. It's all about taking that extra minute to get it right, saves so much headache later.
