Shop owner in Grand Rapids says he won't hire guys who learned from YouTube, is he right or just old school?
I was helping a buddy move a dresser out of his shop in Grand Rapids last week and the owner started going off about the two younger guys he hired last year. He said "you can watch a dovetail video 50 times and still blow out the pin on your first try," and he won't bring on anyone who hasn't spent real hours under a bench. Half of me thinks he's right that hand work only comes from reps, but the other half thinks a guy who studied the basics online can catch up in a month if he's got good hands. Where do you all land on this, is self-taught a red flag or just a different path in?
