Serious question, I always thought pocket hole joinery was a cheap shortcut.

I avoided it for years, but after using a Kreg jig on a built-in bookcase last month, the joints are rock solid. Has anyone else had a project that changed their mind about a technique?

My old shop teacher would roll over seeing my Kreg jig collection now.

and it's funny you mention that because I've noticed the same kind of thing with my dad and his old hand tools. He'd never touch a Kreg jig, but now I see guys his age on Facebook groups getting super into pocket holes for building raised beds and stuff. It's like once you get past the idea that there's only one right way to do something, you start seeing all these little shortcuts that make the hobby way more fun. My neighbor just used one to build a chicken coop and he's been building stuff for years, swears by it now. I think that's just how life goes with a lot of things, you resist something for ages then one day you try it and wonder why you didn't sooner.

Right? I was a total snob about it until my first Kreg project didn't fall apart.
