PSA: Got into it with a finish guy in Grand Rapids over sanding sealer, who's actually right here?
Last week I was spraying a maple vanity job and the finisher I sub with, Dave, watched me scuff between coats and flat out said I was wasting my time. He claims sealer is just an extra step and a good topcoat does the same job, but I've always been taught it locks the grain and saves you on finish. We went back and forth in his shop off Burton Street for 20 minutes and neither of us budged. Am I crazy for thinking sealer earns its spot or is he onto something with cutting that step?
