I just spent $80 on a 'magic' wood filler that was basically colored dust

Saw this fancy brand online promising to blend perfectly with any stain, so I grabbed a tub for a big cherry cabinet job. Opened it up and it was so dry it just puffed into a cloud when I scooped it (my shop looked like a weird spice rack). Tried mixing in water like the instructions said, but it turned into a gritty paste that shrank and cracked overnight. Had to sand it all out and use my normal stuff, wasting a whole morning. Anyone have a wood filler they actually swear by for fine furniture work?

Wait, it puffed into a CLOUD? That's wild! I'd be so mad after spending that much.

Sounds like you bought some overpriced fairy dust for your shop. Those magic promises are usually just marketing pixie smoke. At least now you have a funny story about the day your cabinet tried to season itself.

Got to agree with @cooper.viola, it's mostly just dust and dreams. Honestly, for a cabinet, I'd just use a mix of sawdust from the actual project and some glue. It's free and always matches. Spending that much on filler feels like buying a fancy band-aid.
