A client's comment about my drawer pulls made me rethink my whole process

I was finishing a kitchen for a client in Charlotte, and she pointed out that all the drawer pulls on the island were about a quarter inch off from each other. She said, 'It's the small things you feel every day.' I used to just eyeball them, but now I make a simple jig from scrap plywood to mark every single hole. It adds maybe ten minutes to the job but saves so much headache. Anyone else have a small tip that fixed a big annoyance?

That plywood jig is a game changer. I started using painter's tape to mark my drill spots on long runs of cabinets. You just put one strip along the top edge, mark every hole with a sharpie, and it keeps everything lined up perfectly. It takes two minutes and saves you from that sinking feeling when one pull is just slightly off.

Man, that sinking feeling is the absolute worst, isn't it?

Oh man, I totally get that. I used to just eyeball it and hope for the best (which, let's be honest, never really worked out). That tape trick is honestly brilliant, such a simple fix for a problem that used to drive me crazy. It completely changed how I set up for those jobs now. I wish I'd learned it years ago.
