A $9 clamp from a yard sale just saved a 6 foot mitre joint

Tried using a ratchet strap to pull a crown moulding corner tight on a kitchen build in Joliet last week and it slipped, but this old rusty parallel clamp grabbed it square with no flex, has anyone else had luck with junk sale clamps over the fancy new ones?

Old tools got character, new ones got fancy stickers and broken hinges.
