Spent $400 on a scheduling app for my 6 person crew and we went back to a whiteboard in 2 weeks
I run a small landscaping crew here in Boise, just 6 guys, and back in March I got sold on this scheduling app that was supposed to fix all our mix-ups. It cost $400 for the year and the sales guy swore it would save me 5 hours a week. Two weeks in, my foreman Miguel was still calling me every morning asking where to go because half the crew never checked the app. The guys would mark jobs done when they weren't, and I spent more time fixing the schedule than I ever did on the whiteboard in my shop. I finally asked the crew at our Friday meeting and Miguel said flat out he would rather look at the board than poke at his phone with dirty gloves on. So now I'm out $400 and the whiteboard is back on the wall, no refund. My question is, did I just pick the wrong tool or is this whole thing a waste for small crews? Would love to hear from anyone running 5 to 10 guys who made software actually stick.
