Debate: Should SOPs be strict rules or just rough guides? I had an auditor tear me apart last week and now I'm not sure.

Are you sure the auditor wasn't just having a bad day? SOPs are helpful guides but no document covers every weird situation that pops up in real work.

Yeah "bad day" is doing a lot of work there. I mean, is one grouchy auditor really worth rewriting your whole system?
