A supplier called our inventory system 'reactive chaos' last month
They pointed out we were always rushing orders because we only restocked when things ran out. We switched to a simple weekly check and now our warehouse in Toledo runs way smoother. Anyone else move from reactive to planned ordering and see a big difference?

Ever read that book about the Toyota way? It's all about fixing problems before they happen, which sounds a lot like what you and @charlesowens are talking about. Moving from that daily panic to a simple weekly plan is basically doing that. It cuts out all the wasted time running around putting out fires.

The Toyota Production System is actually more about continuous improvement than just fixing problems before they happen lol. It's a whole culture thing where everyone from the line workers to management is always looking for waste and ways to do things better. But yeah, going from reactive chaos to a weekly plan does tap into that same mindset of not just putting out fires constantly.

Honestly, "reactive chaos" is the perfect way to put it. My old place ran the same way and it was just constant panic. Switching to a basic schedule feels like discovering fire.
