Spent $350 on a template contract that saved me from a nightmare client situation
I was about to take on a renovation project with a guy who kept changing his mind on the scope. Something felt off so I paid for a detailed construction contract template from a lawyer I found through a local bar referral in Portland. Dude ended up trying to sue me for delays he caused. The contract held up because of the change order clause. Cost me $350 but saved me probably ten grand in legal fees. Has anyone else had a cheap template actually save their bacon like that?
I heard some lawyer on a podcast say that change order clauses are the single most important part of any construction contract lol. Sounds like that $350 was the best investment you could've made honestly.
