Showerthought: the $75 consult with a lawyer in Spokane kept my side business from becoming a $4,000 mistake
So I run a small thing selling handmade stuff online, about $900 a month, nothing big. Back in April I almost signed a deal with a guy who wanted to resell my items at his store in Spokane. Sounded great. My neighbor said talk to a lawyer first, so I did, one of those flat fee consults for $75. She read the one page paper he gave me and pointed out I'd be on the hook if his customers got hurt and he had no return window, so I could get stuck with unsold stock. We changed two lines and added a limit on that. Deal still went through. She said most small folks never read that stuff until it's too late, and honestly I would have been one of them. Now I keep a little folder of anything with a signature on it. Has anyone else paid for a short consult and felt like it was worth way more than the price? Or the opposite, paid for one and got nothing out of it?
