Serious question, does a cease and desist letter count as a birthday gift?
Last Tuesday my business partner sent a cease and desist to a guy in Austin who was using our logo on his coffee cart, and the guy replied with a thank you card and a $50 gift certificate. Turns out he thought the logo was a free stock image and had been waiting months for someone to notice, so he was honestly relieved. Our lawyer billed us $650 for a letter that ended with a hug, which is a weird way to spend a Tuesday. Has anyone else had a legal letter land like a compliment instead of a threat?
