Pro tip: always get the partnership agreement signed before you rent the space
Last month my buddy and I were so close to opening a food cart together. We shook hands on a 50/50 split and even put a deposit down on a commissary kitchen in Tacoma. Then his cousin offered him more money for a different project and he just backed out, no notice. I lost $600 on that deposit because we never wrote anything down. Has anyone else had a handshake deal fall apart before a single dollar was made?

A buddy and I lost a grand the same way a few years back, so you're not alone in this. After that, we started doing a one page agreement for everything, even small stuff, and it saved us twice since. Get a template off the internet, fill in the names and cash amounts, and have both people sign it before any money moves.
