Hot take: my business license got flagged for a typo and the city clerk laughed at me for 20 minutes
So I finally got my cleaning LLC filed in Columbus last month, paid the $125 fee, felt like a real grownup. Then last Tuesday I get a letter from the city saying my business name was "too similar to an existing entity" because I wrote "Murray's Shine" instead of "Murray Shine" on line 4 of the form. I call the clerk's office, and the guy on the phone starts laughing and says, "Honey, you're the third person this week who did that, we got a guy who named his pizza shop 'Pizza Pizza Pizza' by accident." I had to refile and pay another $25 late fee, and he told me to bring the original paper in person so he could "see the crime scene." I show up, and he pulls out a folder of what he calls "the hall of shame" - all these forms with tiny mistakes that cost people real money. He says the worst one was a lady who wrote her EIN as her phone number and didn't catch it for 6 months. I walked out of there laughing but also $150 poorer, and honestly I still don't know if he was joking about the pizza place. Has anyone else had a tiny typo turn into a whole thing with your city or state paperwork?
