Can we talk about the guy who tried to sue his landlord over a parking spot?
Last month at my building in Denver, a tenant filed a small claims case because someone parked in his assigned spot three times. He wanted $500 for emotional distress. The judge actually laughed out loud before dismissing it. Has anyone else dealt with tenants who think parking spots are a human rights issue?

Emotional distress over a parking spot? That's rich. I guess the judge figured out pretty quick that losing your spot three times isn't exactly the same as losing your home in a fire. I mean, I get being annoyed, but $500 for feelings? That's like the price of a nice dinner out, not a legal case. Maybe next time he'll just put a cone out like a normal person instead of trying to make it a courtroom drama. Honestly, if every minor inconvenience got you that kind of payout, we'd all be millionaires just from dealing with bad traffic.

Funny you say "emotional distress is rich," but I actually think there's more to this than just someone being dramatic. If you pay for a specific parking spot as part of your lease, and the landlord doesn't do anything when other people take it, that's a real problem with the agreement you signed. Three times is more than a mistake, it shows the landlord doesn't care about enforcing the rules they sold you. Is $500 too much for a few parking losses? Probably. But I get why someone would be mad enough to try. A judge laughing at you for something that matters to your daily routine doesn't mean the frustration isn't real, it just means the law has a weird sense of proportion.
