Unpopular opinion: those super slick die-cut stickers are overrated for car windows
I used to only buy the fancy layered vinyl ones with the glossy finish. Then last summer at the big car show in Houston, a guy had a plain white text sticker that just said 'Coffee First' in a simple font. Everyone walked past the flashy ones to read that. It hit me that people actually read words more when the sticker looks like a sign, not a piece of art. My own batch of 50 colorful ones sat unsold at the table, but his $3 simple ones moved fast. Now I test every design by shrinking it to 2 inches and asking if I can read it from across a parking lot. Anyone else shift away from complex designs for the sake of readability? Maybe I'm missing something about what sells in different regions.
Ever notice how the best road signs are the boring ones? Think about highway exits. You can read "Exit 32" at 70 mph because it's big block letters on green, no swirly fonts or shadows. Same thing with those yellow "Baby On Board" signs from the 80s. Kids drew them plain for a reason. I saw the same shift at a farmers market near me, where the hand written price cards on cardboard outsold the laminated ones with clip art. Simple wins because your brain does less work to get the message. Maybe sticker art is fun for the maker but the buyer just wants to be understood.
