Just realized most bumper sticker vinyl only lasts 2 years outdoors, not 5 like the packaging says

I was browsing a printing forum last night and someone posted actual UV exposure tests from Arizona. Turns out even the expensive vinyl starts cracking around 18-24 months if your car sits in direct sun daily. I checked my own sticker from 2021 and sure enough its faded and brittle. Been telling customers they'll get 5 years out of my designs. Do you guys test your materials before selling or just trust the manufacturer claims?

Manufacturers always quote those numbers from lab tests with controlled conditions. Real world sun and heat are way different. I print my own stickers and started doing quick tests with a cheap UV lamp and scrap vinyl before selling anything. Two years is generous for daily driver exposure, especially darker colors that absorb more heat. Maybe check what grade of vinyl you're actually using because some of that cheap stuff from Amazon falls apart even faster.

I mean, is it really that serious though? People have been slapping bumper stickers on their cars for decades without running controlled UV experiments first. I've got a faded "My Kid is an Honor Student" sticker from 2003 still hanging in there.
