Warning: Perfect bullet journal spreads are making beginners anxious

I've noticed more people getting stressed about their journals looking just right. It seems like social media sets this high standard for every page. My friend tried to copy intricate designs from online and got overwhelmed. She spent so much time on colors and drawings that she forgot to actually plan her tasks. This made her want to give up on journaling altogether. I told her my own pages are often plain and just have quick notes. Now she focuses on what she needs and feels much better about it.

Found myself decorating a future-log for next year instead of writing today's to-do list, classic move.

Seriously! I got stuck in that same trap early on. I tried to make every weekly spread a colorful masterpiece and just burned out. My game changer was a basic pencil, not even pens. I'd scribble tasks and cross them out, and the messy pages actually felt more honest. That shift let me focus on the doing, not just the drawing.

That "focus on the doing" part hits hard. I got so good at planning my workouts with pretty charts that I'd run out of time to actually go to the gym. The plan looked perfect, but my fitness didn't change. It's like I was sketching a garden instead of planting one. The pencil idea is smart because it lets the plan be wrong, which means you can start.
