Just heard my coworker say 'if it's not in the book, it didn't happen' and it made me rethink my whole weekly log.

Does your coworker also think that if a tree falls in the forest and nobody wrote it down, it just stays standing? I had a boss once who was obsessed with the daily log, but she'd completely ignore the three critical errors I fixed off the record, just because I didn't note them in the book. It drove me crazy, especially when she'd praise someone else for "fixing" the same issue a week later. At the end of the day, the book captures what people remember to write, not what actually matters.

That phrase is a bit too strict for real life. The book is just a tool, not the whole truth. A lot of important work happens in quick chats or small fixes that never get written down. If you only trust what's on paper, you miss the real story of how things get done.
