Dot grid vs lined pages for journaling at work - which side are you on?

I was at a conference last week and saw two people arguing about this. One said dot grids help her draw tables and timelines way easier for project tracking, the other swore lined pages keep her handwriting straight and notes look professional. Does your work setup ever conflict with what feels creative?

Used to be team lined all the way until I tried dot grid for timelines. Now I get why that person swears by them, keeps my project planning neat without feeling like I'm writing in a notebook.

The dot grid thing is just part of a whole cultural shift. People want the ability to pivot fast without throwing out the whole system. Lined paper is basically the old school way of saying "this is how it has to be done." But look at how people run their lives now, side hustles, career changes, moving cities. You need tools that let you reshape the plan as you go. Dot grids are just one tiny example of that bigger need for flexibility in everything.

and it's funny because this whole debate actually mirrors something I've noticed about how we work now. We're all trying to balance structure with flexibility, you know? Like, lined pages force you into a certain rigid way of thinking, while dot grids let you decide what each page should be. I think that's why I've seen so many people switch over to dot grids recently - it's not just about the notebook, it's about wanting to break free from the old school straight line approach to organizing your thoughts. When I see that argument at conferences, it feels like people are really arguing about whether they want their work life to be more controlled or more adaptable. And honestly, the people who fight hardest for lined pages usually turn out to be the ones who struggle the most when their projects go off script. The dots just give you room to shift direction without feeling like you've made a mess.
