Why does nobody talk about the hidden fees on those 'free' budgeting apps?

I signed up for one that advertised zero cost, but it quietly charged my card $120 for a 'premium' tier after the trial. Has anyone found a truly free alternative that actually works?

Oh wow, that's exactly what happened to me! I finally just checked my own bank's built-in tool and it does the same thing for free.

My old budget spreadsheet was a mess, but I stuck with it because I figured all apps were scams. That changed when my bank, Chase, launched their own free spending tracker inside the app. It categorizes everything automatically, no trial or upgrade needed. I realized the real free option was hiding in plain sight the whole time. Now I just use what's already linked to my money.

Hidden in plain sight" sounds good until you remember your bank sells your data anyway. The free tracker is just another way to keep you glued to their app. It's not some pure solution, it's the same game with a different name.
