Why does nobody talk about splitting a CSA share with a neighbor?
I signed up for a full CSA share from a local farm in June and ended up with way too many zucchini and kale every week. My neighbor Carol offered to go halfsies on the cost and split the box, so we each pay $15 a week now. Turns out we both waste less food and I actually look forward to pickup day instead of dreading the veggie mountain. Has anyone else tried splitting a subscription like this with someone nearby?

I mean, has anyone actually dealt with the situation where one person ends up liking way more of the box than the other? Because me and my neighbor tried this last summer and it fell apart after a month when I realized she was taking all the tomatoes and leaving me with a mountain of turnips and kohlrabi every week. We were splitting the cost 50/50 but she was getting the stuff we all actually want. How do you handle that part without it getting awkward?

We split ours with the neighbors two houses down and it works great. We each take turns picking up the box and just text a photo of what's inside before we split it. The key is being upfront about what you both actually like to eat so you don't end up fighting over the good stuff like berries or tomatoes. We set up a simple Venmo request every week so nobody has to remember cash.

Ha, reminds me of the time my neighbor Mike and I split a bulk order of apples. Turns out he only liked Granny Smiths and I got stuck with fifty pounds of Red Delicious. What even is a person supposed to do with that many mealy apples. Now we just swap recipes instead of actually sharing the box.
