Warning: I bought a $40 slow cooker from a thrift store in Tacoma and it changed my grocery bill.

I got it on a whim, thinking I'd maybe use it once. Now I make big batches of beans and soup every Sunday, which cuts my lunch costs down to almost nothing. Has anyone else found one cheap kitchen tool that made a big difference in their food budget?

My aunt gave me her old slow cooker and I just never got the hang of it. Honestly, my Instant Pot was a bigger game changer for me because it's so much faster.

Saw a food blog post last week that said slow cookers work best with cheaper, tougher cuts of meat. The long time breaks down the connective tissue.

Yeah, slow cookers are great for set-and-forget meals when you have all day.
