Unpopular opinion: Bulk buying hurts more than helps
I used to think buying in bulk was the best way to save cash. But my budget tracking showed it wasn't helping. For example, I got a big pack of paper towels that lasted forever. I saw I was wasting space and money on stuff I didn't need fast. Now, I only buy bulk for things I use a lot, like rice or beans. This switch cut my grocery bill by 20% last month. It taught me to think more about what I buy.

Yeah, bulk buying can be tricky. For example, getting a huge pack of toilet paper makes sense since you always need it. But for perishables like bread, it might go stale before you finish it. Your paper towel story is relatable, lmao. I once bought too much cereal and it got soggy. So really, it's about knowing what works for your habits.

But what if habits aren't the whole story? I've found that with a little planning, even perishables work in bulk. For instance, I buy large bags of rice and store them in airtight containers to keep them fresh for months. Same with cheese, I grate and freeze what I won't use right away. It's more about making your system fit the bulk items, not just your usual routines. That approach has saved me a lot of money and last-minute store runs.

Honestly, that's a solid point about planning ahead to make bulk work. Tbh I see a lot of people, like wade99 mentioned, just buying big because it's cheap without a real plan for the stuff. Ngl it feels like the real win is when you stop just following old shopping habits and actually build new routines around what you store. That shift from just buying to actually managing what you buy is what saves money and stress.
