Tried the cash envelope thing for groceries last month, ended up $62 under budget
I figured I'd fail by week two but watching the actual cash disappear made me way more careful at Aldi, and now I'm wondering if I should do the same for gas, has anyone else had it work better than cards?

and honestly that's the whole trick for me too, the physical cash makes it feel like a game instead of just numbers on a screen. I did the same thing with gas and it worked scary well, I'd pull out forty bucks for the week and suddenly I was planning my errands around the cheapest station instead of just filling up wherever. What really sealed it was taking the leftover bills and throwing them in a jar, by the end of the month I had like eighty dollars just from being cheap at the pump. that turned into a "stupid tax" fund for when I need new wiper blades or a surprise oil change, stuff that always wrecked my budget before. also made me realize how much I was paying for the convenience of not thinking about it, now I just treat Mondays like a pit stop cash day and I'm actually ahead for the first time in a while.
