TIL my local library has a 'seed library' for free gardening

I was picking up a book on container gardening at the downtown branch last week and saw a little cabinet full of seed packets. Turns out you can just take a few packets for free, no library card needed! I grabbed some lettuce and basil seeds, which would have cost me about $8 at the garden center. It's a cool way to try growing something new without spending any cash. I'm going to start them in some old yogurt cups this weekend. Has anyone else tried growing from a seed library? What did you plant?

Our library started a seed program last spring. I took some marigold and zucchini packets. The marigolds did great all summer, bright orange blooms right up until frost. The zucchini was a bit more of a project, but we got a few good ones from it. It's a nice way to test your green thumb without the investment. I plan to save some seeds from my plants this year to donate back.

Not sure I'd trust library seeds personally. @hugo_cooper, you ever get duds?

My local library does this too and it changed my whole view on gardening.
