That premium budget app cost me $120 and still didn't help

I signed up for a fancy budgeting app last January because the free version felt too basic. Paid $120 upfront for a year subscription thinking it would finally get my spending under control. But the app just tracked stuff automatically and gave me generic tips I already knew. Took me until June to realize I was better off just using a simple spreadsheet. What free or cheap tools do you guys use that actually work?

Hold up, you paid $120 for an app that pretty much just tracks stuff for you? That is wild to me! I mean, yeah the free version might be basic but paying that much just for automated tracking feels like a total waste. Honestly I just use a simple note on my phone where I type in every expense at the end of the day. Works perfect and costs zero dollars.

Cracked up reading this because you're absolutely right, and I wish I had your self control (and your savings account, honestly). I totally fell for that shiny automation, you know, like the promise that it would somehow fix my spending habits overnight. Spoiler alert: it did not.
