Rant: My old grocery method was just throwing stuff in the cart and hoping for the best

I used to walk into the store with zero plan and grab whatever looked good. Last week I finally tried the envelope system for my food budget. I set aside $60 cash for the week and left my cards at home. It was humbling when I had to put back a bag of chips at checkout because I was $2 short. The cashier gave me this look like I was crazy but I felt proud. Now I actually plan meals around sales and coupons which feels way too adult for me. Has anyone else had that moment where you realize you spent years wasting money on snacks you didnt even need?

Walked into the grocery store last week with a list for once and felt like I was playing a whole different game. Putting back that bag of chips because you're two bucks short is a rite of passage, like a reality check from your own wallet. I used to think meal planning was for people with their lives together, but now I'm that weirdo clipping coupons on a Tuesday night. Snacks are just a trap designed to separate you from your money and your dignity, one Dorito at a time.

Jumped on the meal prep train about six months ago and it changed everything. Now I spend Sunday afternoon cooking rice and chicken in bulk, feels like I'm prepping for a camping trip every week. Actually started checking the weekly ads and planning dinners around what's on sale. My coworker saw me with my little coupon binder and laughed, but I saved thirty bucks last trip so jokes on him. The snack aisle is a minefield though, I still grab a bag of pretzels sometimes and regret it when I see the receipt.
