PSA: I used to think a budget was just a list of bills until I saw my friend's spreadsheet.

Back when I was just starting out, my budget was a simple note on my phone with rent and my car payment. I thought that was enough. Then my friend showed me his spreadsheet from last year, and it had every single coffee, gas fill-up, and grocery trip logged. He could tell you exactly how much he spent on takeout in March. I realized I was missing the whole point. Tracking every dollar for three months showed me I was dropping almost $200 a month on stuff I didn't even remember buying, like snacks at the gas station. Now I use a free app to track it all, and that 'found' money goes straight to my car repair fund. How do you guys keep track of the small daily spends without it feeling like a chore?

Oh wow, that's so true. I read this article about "invisible spending" that basically said the same thing. It pointed out how those little $5 to $10 purchases, like grabbing a drink while you're out, add up to a huge chunk of cash you just lose track of. Makes you wonder where it all went, right?

Ever try tracking those small buys for a week?
