My grocery budget FINALLY broke under $400 a month

I used to just wander into Kroger with a vague list and drop $120 each trip without blinking. Then I started using the Notes app on my phone to plan every meal for the week on Sunday afternoons. Now I'm averaging $97 per week for my family of 3 in Austin, Texas, because I only buy what's actually on the list. Anyone else find that meal planning cuts their spending way more than they expected?

Well actually $97 times 4.3 weeks is more like $417, not under $400.

Figure the average month is more like 4.33 or 4.34 weeks if you're being precise, so you're looking at almost $420 a month with that math. Still not a huge difference from $400, but it's not under that mark either.
