My grocery bill came in $75 under budget this month and I'm still shocked

I did a full pantry clean-out last Sunday and found a ton of stuff I forgot I had. There were two unopened bags of rice, canned beans from a sale, and frozen veggies I bought in bulk. I planned the whole week's meals around using that up. I only went to the store for fresh milk and fruit. My usual weekly shop at Kroger is about $125, but this week it was $32. I'm used to scraping by, so having that extra cash feels unreal. It's going straight into my car repair fund. Has anyone else had a win just from using what they already bought?

Seriously? It's just using food you already paid for. That's not a win, that's basic adulting. You bought the rice and beans already, you just forgot. Now you're acting like you hacked the system. It's your own money you spent before. The real shock should be that you had to dig through your pantry to find it.

You're missing the mental load part of it. Finding a forgotten meal means one less decision to make when you're tired and hungry. It's not about the money, it's about the relief of not having to figure something out. That's a real win on a bad day, even if it sounds small. Calling it just adulting ignores how hard those small wins can be to get sometimes.

But is it really that big of a relief? It's just dinner, not solving a major problem. You still have to heat it up and eat it, so it's not like the decision making totally stops. Feels like we're calling every little thing a mental load win now.
