Just realized I was scared to open my credit card statement for six months back in 2022

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last summer and this guy next to me casually mentioned he checks his spending every Sunday morning like it's a hobby. That made me finally open the pile of bank letters I had been hiding under my car seat. Has anyone else avoided their own numbers for way too long just because you were sure they were ugly?

The guy at the coffee shop sounds like a psychopath if you ask me. I had a stack of unopened credit card statements under my passenger seat for about 8 months back in 2021, and when I finally checked them I was only like 400 bucks in debt the whole time. My brain had convinced me I was basically bankrupt and living in a cardboard box.

2021 was a few years ago now, not back in 2019.
