I finally split my paycheck between two accounts, still torn on which method wins
So I got paid last Friday and had to pick: put the full amount in checking and move savings manually, or auto-transfer 20% to a separate savings account the day before payday. I went with the auto-transfer since I kept forgetting to move money, and it hit $180 into my emergency fund without me touching it. But now I feel like I'm not as aware of my spending because that money never shows up in my main balance. My buddy swears by manual moves because it forces you to look at every dollar, and he saved $2,400 in 6 months that way. Which system actually keeps you honest, the set-and-forget or the hands-on approach? Has anyone switched between the two and seen a real difference in what they save?
