Hot take: cash envelopes vs budgeting apps for weekly groceries
I used to swear by the cash envelope system last year in Austin, pulling out $200 every Sunday for food, but now I'm all in on YNAB because I kept losing track of cash. Has anyone else switched from one method to the other and found a clear winner for controlling impulse buys?

Girl, I went through this exact same struggle last year! The cash envelope system works great until you forget where you stashed that $20 bill or lose a whole envelope like I did twice. I switched to YNAB about six months ago and honestly it saved me from my own chaos. What really helped was setting up a separate grocery category and checking it before I walked into the store so I knew my exact limit. Now I can see right there on my phone if I'm about to blow the budget on snacks or impulse buys. The digital version just keeps me way more honest than cash ever did for me.

I read this article on lifehacker a while back that said people who use cash actually spend about 20% less on groceries than card users because it hurts more to hand over physical money. But then I tried the envelope method and man, I kept grabbing the wrong envelope or forgetting to bring it all together. The app route works better for me too because you can see the damage before you hit the checkout line. That instant reality check on your phone stops me from tossing random stuff in the cart way more than cash ever did.
