Heads up on the 'just get a new phone' advice

My old phone's battery was shot, so I had to choose between a $50 battery kit or a $900 new phone. I went with the kit, and after a careful afternoon with a YouTube guide, it's like new. Has anyone else had a good result fixing something instead of replacing it?

Nice, you saved eight hundred and fifty bucks and got a new skill. The phone companies must hate seeing people actually fix things. My own repair attempts usually end with extra screws and a quiet shame.

Actually it was more like a hundred bucks for the part, but still a huge win. The big savings come from not paying for labor, which is where they really get you. Even a simple battery swap can cost a ton if you don't do it yourself. Those extra screws are just a bonus feature, honestly.

This whole thing feels like a quiet rebellion against planned obsolescence. You see it with appliances and cars too, where a simple fix gets treated like a full replacement job. It's satisfying to win one against the system for a change.
