Appreciation post: My coworker's 5 minute habit saved me $200 a month

Last year a coworker at my office in Denver noticed I was buying lunch every day. He said, just make a sandwich at home, it takes 5 minutes. I thought he was joking. I started doing it and now I spend maybe $40 a week on groceries for lunch instead of $70. That's like $120 extra in my pocket each month lol. Has anyone else had a small change like that blow up your budget in a good way?

You said you told yourself it was a "treat" - how did you finally break that mental habit of treating yourself every single day?

That's a GREAT point about the little stuff adding up. My own version of that is coffee. I used to hit the drive through every single morning. Two dollars for a coffee and a breakfast sandwich, sometimes more. I told myself it was a treat, but the math was brutal. Now I just make a big thermos of coffee at home and grab a granola bar. That's like $60 a month gone. It's almost too easy to forget how fast those small purchases eat into your paycheck.
