The hostel owner who laughed at my packing list saved me $140

I showed her my color-coded spreadsheet before a 10 day Europe trip and she said 'you're gonna check that bag, aren't you?' I swapped to a carry-on with just 4 outfits, did laundry twice, and cut the airline fee and bag weight penalty completely. Anyone else get called out by locals on their overpacking?
