Switched my stance on hostels after that $40 night in Denver
I used to think hostels were gross and not worth the hassle. But I booked a private room at a place near Union Station for $40 a night and it changed my mind. The place had free breakfast, lockers, and a common area where I met other travelers. Now I'm thinking about trying a dorm room next time, just to save more. Anyone else have a good hostel experience that surprised them?

I get why the price was good, but private rooms in hostels are barely cheaper than a motel. I'd rather just pay a little more for total privacy and not having to deal with shared bathrooms or random people in the hall at 3am.

haha yeah but honestly the 3am hall wanderers are half the fun. you never know when you're gonna get a guy in a banana costume asking if you've seen his phone charger. plus shared bathrooms build character, right? motels are cool til you realize the remote has been in that same sticky spot since 2003.
