Shoutout to the old trick of booking a flight for a Wednesday... it didn't go as planned this time
I always used to save a bunch by flying out mid-week, so I booked a Wednesday trip to Denver last month. The flight itself was cheap, like $120, but the hotel prices for that specific Wednesday were through the roof because of some big convention I didn't know about. Ended up paying almost double for the room, which wiped out the flight savings. Learned that checking local event calendars is just as important as the flight day now. Has anyone else had a cheap flight totally backfire because of something else at the destination?

I mean, I once saved $90 on a Tuesday flight to Austin just to spend it all on a single airport beer and a burger.

Haha classic @hugo_cooper, that's the whole point of saving money though.

My buddy Tom did the same thing flying to Denver last year. Saved like sixty bucks on a red-eye but then the only food open was this overpriced kiosk with a twelve dollar bag of trail mix and a warm sandwich that cost almost as much as a tank of gas. He said he spent the whole "savings" before he even got past the gate.
