Shoutout to the guy who showed me his hostel bunk bed fort
Last Tuesday in Barcelona I met this backpacker who turned his 12 euro dorm bunk into a private cave using a bedsheet and some binder clips he stole from the front desk. He draped it over the top bunk so it hung down like a curtain, blocking light and noise from the hallway. Has anyone else done weird stuff to make cheap hostels feel less like a sardine can?

Oh man, I once hung a towel over the bunk lamp and made a tiny reading nook that felt like my own little room.

Not gonna lie, at first I thought the trash bag thing sounded super extra. But then @fisher.mason mentioned the towel over the lamp and it clicked for me... I started hanging a blanket from the top bunk rail and draping it down, then piling pillows on the bottom bunk to make a little fort. Actually turned into my favorite spot to study until my roommate tripped on it and yanked the whole thing down.

Had a friend in college who took this to the extreme. She taped black trash bags over the entire top bunk and made a little cave with string lights inside. Called it her "apartment." She'd disappear in there for hours with snacks and books. Her roommate thought she was weird but honestly it was genius. She kept it up until the end of the semester when the tape peeled off and left a sticky mess.
