PSA: I booked a 'cheap' flight to Barcelona with a 9-hour layover to save $80, and it was a total trap.

The layover was in a tiny, dead airport with no real food and uncomfortable seats, so I ended up spending over $60 on bad snacks and a neck pillow just to survive. I lost a whole day of my trip being tired and grumpy, and the savings weren't worth the misery. Has anyone else found a good way to actually judge if a long layover is worth the cash you save?

Ever have a friend who tried that? My buddy did the same thing for a trip to Rome and got stuck in an airport that felt like a bus station at 3 AM. He said the money he saved just went into overpriced coffee and a terrible sandwich, and he started his vacation exhausted. Sometimes the cheap ticket really is just the most expensive nap you'll ever buy.

Book a mid day flight, nothing good happens after midnight.
